In 1917, as World War I – “The War to End All Wars" – raged throughout northern Europe, the Mother of God favored the most unlikely of places and the most unlikely of messengers to appear to.

In the rural village of Fatima, tucked into an obscure corner of Portugal, Heaven chose three illiterate shepherd children to announce a dire warning, a plan for peace, and a secret that was meant for every man, woman, and child in the world.

After a thorough investigation by the local Bishop of Leiria, Portugal, as well as by Catholic Church authorities in Rome, the Church proclaimed the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the three seers of Fatima as worthy of belief.

We know that Heaven always chooses its messengers from among the most humble among us. Our Lord said, “I confess to thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to the little ones.” – Matthew 11:25.

So now let us take a look at these “little ones” of Fatima, Portugal to whom Our Lady revealed secrets from Heaven.
