What are the Five First Saturdays?

During the apparition of July 13, 1917 at Fatima, Our Lady told the three children that She would return to “ask for… the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays” to make reparation for the many sins against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

In keeping Her promise, Our Lady appeared to Sister Lucy in her convent in Pontevedra, Spain, on Thursday, December 10, 1925, to request that the devotion of the Communions of Reparation on the First Saturdays be made known.

With this devotion, Our Lady makes an amazing promise: that She will assist at the moment of death, with all the graces necessary for salvation, those who perform these Communions of Reparation on the First Saturdays of five consecutive months. The requirements to obtain this promise are:

  1.  Confession

  2.  Communion

  3.  Five Decades of the Rosary

  4.  Over the duration of the five months, to meditate on the 15 Mysteries of the Rosary, taking at least fifteen minutes each First Saturday.

  5.  To do all these things in the spirit of reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Through the tireless efforts of Sister Lucy and others, this great yet simple devotion has, over the last eight decades, spread around the world, uniting millions in universal acts of reparation that seeks to console the Hearts of Jesus and Mary and to save souls everywhere.

While still on this earth, Sister Lucy herself wrote that “the greatest joy” she felt was “to see the Immaculate Heart of our so tender Mother known, loved and consoled by the means of this devotion.”

The Apparition

Eight years after the Fatima events, when Sister Lucy was living in a convent in Pontevedra, Spain, she experienced another apparition of Our Lady. On this occasion, the Virgin returned as She had promised at Fatima (on July 13, 1917) to relate the specific requirements for the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays.

How to Make the Five First Saturdays Devotion

On November 1, 1927, Sister Lucy wrote to her godmother, Dona Maria de Miranda:

“(…) I don’t know if you already know about the reparatory devotion of the five Saturdays to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. As it is still recent, I would like to inspire you to practice it, because it is requested by Our Dear Heavenly Mother and Jesus has manifested a desire that it be practiced. Also, it seems to me that you would be fortunate, dear godmother, not only to know it and to give Jesus the consolation of practicing it, but also to make it known and embraced by many other persons.

Commitment to the Five First Saturdays

As Our Lord said to Sister Lucy on December 10, 1925 at Pontevedra, Spain:

“Have compassion on the Heart of your Most Holy Mother, covered with thorns, with which ungrateful men pierce It at every moment, and there is no one to make an act of reparation to remove them.”

Today — right now — is your opportunity to commit to the Five First Saturdays as asked for by Our Lord Himself. It is a simple and easy way to make reparation for the offenses and blasphemies committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
