Marian Devotion

“Never be afraid of loving the Blessed Virgin too much. You can never love Her more than Jesus did.” – Saint Maximilian Kolbe

What a joy and an honor to love the Virgin Mary, the Mother of God and our Mother! When we reflect on how much Our Blessed Mother loves us, we cannot but reply to Her love by loving Her in return.

St. Anthony Mary Claret tells us that “Mary’s role is to be a Mother to sinners and to plead for them. The Eternal Word took on flesh, became man, became our brother, and, as Brother, He wants us to have the same Father He has and the same Mother. "

Therefore, we owe Mary our deepest devotion because without Her fiat — Her saying “Yes” to God — Jesus Christ would not have taken on flesh, the flesh He was to later offer on Calvary for our sins.

And we can say with all sincerity that no one has ever loved God more than the Blessed Virgin Mary. The love for God by all of the angels and saints combined does not compare to that of Mary’s. So when Our Lord gave us to Mary while He was dying on the Cross, out of Her love for God, She took each and every one of us as Her own:

“Now there stood by the cross of Jesus, his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary of Cleophas [St. John’s birth mother], and Mary Magdalen. When Jesus therefore had seen his mother and the disciple standing whom he loved, he saith to his mother: Woman, behold thy son. After that, he saith to the disciple: Behold thy mother. And from that hour, the disciple took her to his own.” (John 19:25-27)

How can we ever thank Mary enough for giving us the life of Her Son? And how can we ever show our gratitude to Our Mother who only wishes our perfect happiness with Her in Heaven?

Thankfully, the Catholic Church gives us the means to show our love and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. One of these means is the Brown Scapular where we show in a concrete way that we are Our Lady’s spiritual children.

Other ways we can show our devotion to Mary are through the recitation of the Holy Rosary and by practicing the Five First Saturdays.

It is evident that by establishing throughout the world devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, that Heart which loves us so much, then many more people — the saintly and the devout as well as the lukewarm and sinners — will be brought closer to Mary, Our Mother. Thus all souls so drawn to Mary shall surely become closer to Her Son Jesus, True God and True Man. In this way many more souls will be saved.
